The Hon Paul Heath KC

Paul was appointed Queen’s Counsel in June 1998 and as a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand in March 2002. He retired from the Bench in April 2018, and since that time, has been engaged in arbitration and mediation, together with other forms of dispute resolution.

As a former High Court Judge, Paul has a reputation for independence and impartiality in relation to all types of disputes that have come before him, whether as a Judge, arbitrator, or mediator. Since his retirement from the Bench, Paul has been appointed to about 20arbitrations (including international ones) and has conducted about 15 mediations of various types. In addition, he has undertaken inquiries for both central and local Government.

Paul has had a strong interest in sport throughout his life. He returned to cricket administration after retiring from the Bench. He is currently Chair of Northern Districts Cricket Association. Since mid-2019, Paul has served as a member of the New Zealand Lawyers’ and Conveyancers’ Disciplinary Tribunal. Paul is a Fellow of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand.
